Bardsung: The Great Evil

No epic adventure is complete without a final showdown against a seemingly unbeatable enemy, and Bardsung is no different.

The Greater Demon is the last of the Bardsung models I had left to paint and it's a big old model, a fitting finale to the project.

As you can see from the pictures it's a massive model and certainly took some time to get painted up. One can only wonder at the terrible ordeal it must be for the adventurers to face down such an imposing foe.

Bardsung: Calling all the Heroes

This week I completed the last of the hero models for Bardsung, almost bringing the painting project to a close.

For the hero models I went with a white undercoat as opposed to the black one I used on the monsters, this was to make them brighter on the table and hopefully help them stand out.

You get a good variety of hero types with everything from Dwarf fighters to Elven mages covered by way of Raven assassins and Turtle mystics.

It looks like everyone should be able to find a hero type that appeals to them amongst the choices on offer.

Now I just have the giant Demon left to paint and all the models will be completed.

Mr T and I also got in another game of Napoleonic's this week with the cavalry making an appearance on the table. Both sides fielded two units of six and a mounted officer as we tried to get a feel for them. The French cavalry got a bit overexcited and one unit was routed by gun-fire whilst the other was whittled down by shooting and melee.

On the infantry side of the battle the French had the upper hand and managed to push the British off the wagon objective and claim a somewhat Pyrrhic victory.

Bardsung: Bugbears

These are almost the last of the monsters for Bardsung, with only the GIANT (it deserves the caps) demon left to paint. That will have to wait though as I'm going to do the heroes next.

I do like a blue skinned monster so continuing on with that the theme I went with a blue skin and then orange main clothing colours.

First up are the Hunters, again I've not opened the unit stat cards yet so can only guess from the name and model what these guys do. But as they look pretty chunky and have big bows I expect being shot in the face by them is going to hurt. They may also have some sort of lurking / hiding mechanic to spring a ranged ambush on the heroes.

Next up are the Berserkers leaping from their tactical rock, it will be safe to assume they want to get up close and personal ASAP.

Then we have the bosses, first up is a big angry looking Bugbear. Again I can only assume he will be getting up close and punching some face, he certainly looks like the sort of monster that makes hero casters cry.

Obviously the leader of the Bugbears the War chief can be seen directing his troops in battle. He does also have a big sword so presumably he's no slouch when it comes to melee.

Lastly we have a Shaman who's seen mid-caper as he no doubt casts some spell or other. I could see a Shaman acting more as a support caster so perhaps he has a way to buff his friends along with a more standard ranged attack spell or two.

This is a smaller group than the others I did earlier but the models are a fair bit bigger (most are on 25mm bases) than the rest so presumably each individual Bugbear is tougher than the other monsters.

Carenvale: Taking a Dip

Nothing nicer on a boiling hot day than to take a dip in some cooling water. Unless of course that water is home to a couple of Sirena who are out to drown you. I finally got hold of these models at Attack last month and painted them up. I'm not sure they are the best choice and you are unlikely to want to run two but they are great models so I wanted to add them to the collection.

In a faction centred around magic and monsters these ladies tick both those boxes and also have an advantage when trying to make Drown actions. This advantage is hampered by their low Attack score so they probably won't be rolling many dice in a Drown action.

One instance when you could run two Sirena would be if you fielded an all magic wielding force with the henchman slots being filled by Aglaope. TT Combat sell these in a 3 pack so that would be enough to fill out all the henchman slots you'd need, you could add a slave or two as well/instead. So perhaps one for a future purchase.

I also recently got some extra bases so could finally base up my second Harpy for the Strigoi, here she is ready to take to the skies.

And the last bit of painting to show is two more Bardsung models, an Oni with his big sword and one of the the machines from the lost levels.

Short and sweet this week as I need to go lie down in a cool spot!

Bardsung: More More Monsters

No game this week as Mr T has fled the country for (even) warmer climes, but I have been continuing work on the Bardsung monsters and have a decent part of the set now completed.

First up we have Cepid the Mycoid, I'm not sure many mushrooms have teeth but this one does.

The Wolf pack is pretty much as advertised, a nice quick one for contrast paints.

I think this one is a gelatinous cube, but I can't immediately find it's details.

The Crimson Hook was riding another giant spider, this one dispenses with that burden.

A giant brain with nasty looking hooked tentacles, the Grell is sure to haunt peoples sleep.

Again I can't find a name for this one, but I think it may be a basilisk.

Ferrous Maw / rust monster, whatever it is you don't want it near your sword or metal armour.

Bardsung: Monsters and Machines

As well as working on my Deadzone models I've also been painting up some more of the models from the Bardsung dungeon crawler I backed on Kickstarter. The box comes with a good number of unique models as well as the rank and file so to keep things interesting I picked out a few of the unique models to paint up.

I picked out a hobgoblin riding a giant spider, an ettin, a giant rat and some sort of ooze. The rat and the ooze where pretty straight forwards to paint but the hobgoblin and it's spider took more effort.

As most of the wargames we play involve painting up lots of models with similar paint schemes it's nice to get into a few models who are one offs as you don't need to worry about producing anything coherant.

The second set I've painted up are from an expansion call The Lost Levels. The models consist of mechanical beings, possibly like the Warforged from D&D. You get a good range of models from the aptly named Colossus to dangerous looking Predator, who probably isn't much of a tank.

I opted to work pretty much entirely with dry brushed metallic paint for these models which allowed me to work through them pretty quickly. The models have loads of little details which the dry brushing picks out so even a quick job looks good.

As well as the boss/leader models you get some rank and file with some hefty looking sword and shield types, and some semi-levitating blaster models.

The specialists come in two flavours with some extra hefty tank models.

And some deadly assassin types with twin blades.

At some point I need to break the seals on all the card packs and have a look at the actual stats for all the models, but that's one for the future at the moment.
