League of Infamy: Grand Larceny

This week I finished up the last of the League of Infamy villains and with them the whole set of models that came with the game and a few extra ones as well.

Firstly we have The Mother Infernal who is a fallen Abbess of the Basilean church. We saw a similar villain in the Drowned Secrets book by Ben Stoddard so whilst a rare event the turning of a once holy Abbess isn't a complete unknown. The Mother Infernal has an equal number of attack dice for melee and ranged but her War-pick gives her a chance to ignore armour in melee so that would seem to be her best fighting spot. She also has a nice re-roll a dice mechanic that can help smooth out a bad roll for her or a fellow villain.

Alaia used to be a Kraken hunter until her ship was wrecked and she was forced to take up alternate employment, as a Naiad she come from a neutral faction so is used to looking out for her own best interests. Much stronger at range than in melee she wants to stay out of trouble and shoot the enemy away, she has a chance to be able to drag enemies out of position with her harpoon though she probably wants to drag them into a waiting melee villain rather than into melee range of herself.

Barthamus's path to becoming a necromancer was set when his family was murdered and the League recognised the usefulness of having a master of the dead on their roster. He has a powerful ranged attack but also the ability to raise a recently slain defender to fight for him. He does need to stay close to the action to recharge his spells so will want to be careful about his positioning during raids.

Lat up we have Blaine, Mantic's interdimensional traveller who appears in all their games. He probably shouldn't be used in the game as he tends to be very powerful in any game in which he appears. It is nice to have the model for him and he could even appear to give the villains a bit of a slap as a bonus boss.

With all the villains complete I grouped them up for a bit of a team photo, it also shows the wide range of villains available to be chosen from. As I said before the villains cover the full range of archtypes so no matter if you prefer, tanking, DPS or support you should have someone you can pick. Without playing it's hard to know if you need to cover all the bases in order to be successful on a raid but I expect you can get through them without taking a 'one of each' approach.

I also gathered all the models together from the game and took a couple of big group shots as well. Considering the Kickstarter edition was only £140 you get a lot of models considering how many books, maps, & tokens also come in the set.

As we've just started playing some D&D it's probably going to be a while before these hit the table but hopefully we can play at some point and get the models out on the table.

League of Infamy: Halflings Completed

I have managed to work my way through the last of the Halflings for the League of Infamy which means the 4 bosses and the mighty Iron Beast are done.

The Halflings tend towards the comedy end of the spectrum so we have a range of archetypes on display. Greedyguts is obviously a Halfling that likes an extra serving or two and as such is literally more rounded than the others.
The Feastmaster comes with two cleavers and a mean look in his eyes. He also has a useful ability which allows for two extra defenders to be activated, this could lead to the villians being overwhelmed under Halfling bodies.

The Master Burglar is one of the extra defenders that stats are provided for but not models. I went with a Reaper Bones model for her. She has an interesting ability which allows her to take equipment from the villains and even use it, which could be nasty for anyone holding onto a health potion for the right moment.

Lastly we have the Sauceror who practises Gastromancy, the ancient art of cooking magic. It's quite an interesting model which again shows a more comedy aesthetic but it's been nicely put together and works well for the food loving Halflings.

The Iron Beast came already assembled which made painting a bit of a fiddley job. It is a good size model though and will no doubt be released as a stand-alone figure for the upcoming Halfling release for Kings of War.

Stats wise it's a bit of a beast in not only name, having a good armour, lots of health and some nasty looking attacks. Any villains running up against this will need to be careful.

So with the Halflings now completed I have only the Trident Realm models and the Villains themselves to paint up for the whole game to be completed.

I had hoped to be starting on some Armada models with Dwarfs and Northern Alliance (for Kingdoms of Men) being the factions I was planning to buy. It seem the Northern Alliance are not being released before next year so I'm going to switch over to the Napoleonic's instead which I have also been planning.

League of Infamy: Halflings

This week I've been continuing with the League of Infamy miniatures and have been making some progress on the No Half Measures expansion. This pits the villains against the Halfling defenders who have some surprises up their sleeves.

You get five different defender troop types and then a few heroes, who I have just started work on. The defenders each have a cost (top left corner) and the keep master can spend alarm tokens to recruit the models of their choice.

On the card you can see the main stats across the middle:
Boot - speed
Shield - defence
Heart - life

Attacks are worked out by rolling the appropriate number and type of attack dice and then this number minus the targets defence (unless any special abilities come into play) is the amount of damage done.

The number and type of dice to be rolled is displayed on the left & right side of the card with the number of spots on the sides of the dice changing as the dice increase in power.

Left side - melee
Right side - ranged

White, 1 * blank, 4 * one, 1 * two
Orange, 2 * one, 2 * two, 2 * three
Purple, 1 * two, 2 * three, 3 * four

As well as the defenders that came with the game I've also painted up some Wargames Atlantic Halflings which could be used with the extra stats that came with the game for units they didn't provide models for. The sprue didn't have the option for crossbows but they should work fine I'm sure.

So that's all the basic troops done for the expansion with just the bosses to go, they shouldn't take too long to complete apart from the Iron Beast which is a big ole model so may be a few weeks in the paint shop.
